Film:seen and to be seen.

1) The Darjeeling Limiteddarjeeling.jpg

I went to see this last night. I never go to the theater to see new films. A) I am so very lazy and B) there have not been many films I have really wanted to see in recent years. I really wanted to see this and am glad I did. Wes Anderson does not disappoint in the Darjeeling Limited. He seems to really capture the family dynamic in both this new film and Tenenbaums. While Tenenbaums dealt with parental relations, The Darjeeling Limited focuses on the relationships between siblings.

Sitting there in the nearly empty theater, snacking on dried cranberries, I could not help but be reminded of my own relationship with my siblings. I was the oldest of three, and much later became the oldest of five. It is quite possible that siblings, when raised close enough together, can be closer emotionally and psychologically  than parents and children. The terrifying thing about this is that as people grow into adults this amazing closeness and intimacy can become quite bitter and toxic. Anderson did a terrific job of portraying this in the film.

Sometimes when I look at my brother and sister (the first two, when we were a trio) I am stunned by how familiar their faces are to me. Through the years I’ve  memorized every bump in their teeth, scar, and my sister’s sunspots (“my cancer”, she calls them). I think I may know their faces and expressions better than my own.

I think Owen Wilson is awful, seriously. However, I loved him in the film, seriously. I cringed a bit from his portrayal. The oldest always makes too many decisions for the others and takes way too much credit and blame. Sins I have frequently committed as the oldest. My advice to you, as the oldest of five: call your siblings, drag them out and see the film. Don’t let all the yellow upset you as it will begin to fade in.

 2) My Heart Is An Idiot (coming soon !)

My Heart Is an Idiot is a film about love, told through a documentary which follows Davy Rothbart and his brother Peter (siblings) on a cross country tour. Davy is the (found)er of Found Magazine (my fave <3) and recently came through my town promoting  the magazine. These guys are very comical and witty and inspiring. You would like them. You would like this film. Maybe your heart is an idiot. Maybe your heart is an idiot savant. My heart is a straight up foo’ , but take my advice that you should certainly see this film when it becomes available to you. Cross my heart. See the official website and joining the mailing list/myspace for updates.

Twin Peaks Gold Box Definitive Edition

However, I think it is smarmy when things are labeled definitive. Ugh, for all the definitive jerks in the world who cannot simply own a brilliant show on DVD, they must have the definitive edition.

I just want to sit down and watch it all, whenever I want. The infinitive edition? I will/do/can see it.

I have been away from here for some time. I felt generally uninspired and quite depressed the last few weeks. Yeah, I know, what a fucking whiner, eh ?
I am feeling moderately better, right this second, because I do not have to wake up at four tomorrow (yahay!) and serve coffee to people who think I am their unpaid personal assistant (or worse…).
stranger’s bathrooms are a trip.
Also, I had a really great time Saturday night hopping around to different Halloween parties. My costume ? Vintage diner waitress with the most bitchin beehive ! I rocked that beehive, let me tell you, which made up for the pain of combing it out the next day.
My social life has sorta went down hill since summer. I have a tendency to become reclusive, suspicious, and generally non-fun to be around. I will work on this in the coming months in conjunction with updating this blog. Or not. Whatever happens.

Where have I been ? No new posts for some time. My stack of “To Read” and “To Do” have grown recently, with the latter, unfortunately, consuming 85% of my precious time.
